Placements benefit Angliss hotel students
Ninety-seven per cent of Angliss International Hotel School students completed a work placement in 2016 which is a key feature of the Diploma of Hospitality, giving students valuable hands-on experience.
These placements took place across a range of hotels throughout Melbourne including the Hyatt hotels, the Westin, Hilton, Crown Promenade, The Como Melbourne and The Langham Melbourne.
“We are thrilled with these outcomes as we want to see our students out working in industry which is the goal of the specialised training and placement opportunities,” AIHS co-ordinator Ms Melissa Jennings said.
Angliss International Hotel School was launched in 2016 and offers students a customised study pathway to take service delivery to a new and luxurious level.
Students have access to personalised careers support to help them gain skills in managing their careers and in gaining employment.
The program offers a Diploma of Hospitality which is delivered over 12 months and focuses on developing students’ skills in hotel management.
“Studying at AIHS gave me constant contact with industry via my placement at The Westin Melbourne plus an international experience of the hotel industry with our trip to Singapore,” graduate Tayla Mangles said.
The course features an exclusive Masterclass series in the provision of luxury services delivered by industry experts, including whisky expertise, floristry and luxury sales skills.
At their recent graduation, Ruey Chong received the Recognition of Excellence in Diploma of Hospitality Management and Ruby Larsen-Wallace received the Recognition of Excellence in Hotel Placement award.
Ruby conducted her placement at the Wyndham Hotel and was awarded for excellence in hotel work placement and success in the project. Ruey received the award based on his contribution to the greater Angliss community, all round academic excellence and connection to the hotel industry through his placement at Hilton South Wharf where he is now employed.
In semester one, 19 AIHS students completed a cultural study tour of Singapore which is an essential part of curriculum that provides invaluable experience in international hotel service.
“By providing familiarisation in global tourism to our students, they become equipped with indispensable travel and cultural knowledge for their roles as future hotel and front desk managers. The students experienced a week of multicultural tours and luxury hotel masterclasses.” AIHS coordinator Sheena D’Souza said.
At the five-star Pan Pacific Orchard Hotel the group learned about authentic Singaporean Laksa and how to make a Singapore Sling mocktail. They attended an interactive hotel tour and discussion on staff appreciation week at the Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel, and a sustainability and interactive hotel tour at the Parkroyal on Pickering.
“For our students the highlight of the tour was vising the Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel, where we learnt about association appreciation week and the Parkroyal on Pickering, focusing on luxury hotel sustainability,” Coordinator AIHS Sheena D’Souza said.
After completing the Diploma, students qualify for guaranteed entry into the second year of any William Angliss Institute Bachelor Degree programs. The Bachelor of Resort and Hotel Management perfectly complements Angliss International Hotel School and will help students prepare for an exciting career in one of the fastest growing industries in Asia Pacific, the international resorts and hotel industry.
