Sydney hotel rooms used for drug operations worth over $500K

A Burwood man will front court after authorities found a stash of illicit substances in two hotel rooms in Sydney’s CBD valued at over half a million dollars.

The stash included 500 MDMA pills, methylamphetamine and cocaine, with a street value of $600,000.

The seizure came after Strike Force Weismantle was established by West Police Area Command to investigate the commercial supply of prohibited drugs throughout the city.

At about 10am on Wednesday strike force investigators arrested a 52-year-old Burwood man in Commonwealth St in Sydney.

Shortly after his arrest, officers searched two hotels in Bond St and Wentworth St in the CBD.

Police said they located 500 MDMA tablets, 100g of cocaine, 3.2kg of 1,4-butanediol, 700g of methylamphetamine, more than one kilogram of cannabis, and more than $70,000 cash.

Seized items will now undergo forensic examination.

The Burwood man, who was refused bail, was charged with 23 offences, including eight counts of supplying a prohibited drug (indictable) less than commercial quantity and six counts of supplying a prohibited drug greater than or equal to commercial quantity.

During the investigation which started in August this year, police seized 4.9 kilograms of 1,4-butanediol, and 252 grams of methylamphetamine.
