Neil Perry opens wine bar Next Door to Margaret

Neil Perry has opened a wine bar called Next Door in Double Bay.

The bar is sandwiched between his recently opened restaurant Margaret and his co-owned Baker Bleu and has taken the place of the former Roxy’s Double Bay .

Next Door will feature 60-seat space doubles, while acting as an all-day diner, lunch venue and a dinner restaurant with around 16 snack items and four mains.

A highlight will be Perry’s famed burger. While this one won’t be the same as the one served up at Rockpool – the dining experience that made him famous – it will be the same as the one he created for Margaret during lockdown.

The patty is a mix of brisket and chuck from CopperTree Farms and is grilled medium with cheese, pickles, onion, tomato sauce, mustard and a rose mayo secret sauce.

Perry has described his Margaret creation as a “proper American cheeseburger”.

Snacks at Next Door will include oysters, kingfish and woodfired peppers. There will also be the more substantial 300-gram salted Reuben sandwich, which will feature David Blackmore silverside and fresh rye bread, a kilo of mussels mariniere, and herb-crusted coral trout.

Guests at Next Door will have full access to Margaret’s wine menu, as well as the bar’s own menu. There are about 20 wines available by the glass, as well as seasonal cocktails and craft beers to choose from.

Next Door opened at the tail end of 2022.
