Pay for view or pay for pasta: Iceberg’s attacked for $68 dish

Coming hot on the heels of schnitzel-gate, comes another price war – this time aimed at pasta dishes served at Bondi Icebergs.

You may remember the price of a schnitzel meal at a former bowls club turned restaurant was called out by everyone from Redditers to Karl Stefanovic.

This week there is similar outrage aimed at the pricey pasta at the iconic Bondi venue.

One Tik Tok and self-proclaimed foodie asked whether the $68 price tag "is it worth it?".

Icebergs claims to have the "best produce" from Australia and has two pasta dishes: a quail ragù pasta and a seafood pasta to go with the exceptional ocean views.

The woman’s Tik Tok video, which does acknowledge cost of living, staff and rents costs, questioned whether people would pay that much money for a pasta.

Her video invited further comments.

"I’ve worked in some very premium restaurants in Australia that have world renown chefs and impeccable views and never seen prices like that," one shared.

"It’s totally worth it . . . if there’s DIAMONDS hidden in the bowl," another joked. "$68 tell 'em they're dreaming," one person responded.

Others defended the prices as the restaurant owners making the most of the spectacular location.

"It’s how they keep the clientele they’re after," one woman suggested.

Icebergs owner Maurice Terzini defended the prices.

"Well if you put your thinking caps on you could probably work it out," Terzini told Yahoo News Australia.

"Like most restaurants on the ocean around the world, the view comes at a price," he said.
