Taronga Zoo opens new restaurant at luxury Wildlife Retreat

Taronga Zoo will open its new dining room Me-Gal on Thursday, 30 March as part of its luxury Wildlife Retreat.

The retreat has been labelled by Concrete Playground as one of the best hotels in Sydney, with five-star touches and wildlife views.

The restaurant adds to the one of a kind eco retreat and will feature a seasonal menu sourced by Executive Chef Stefan Schröder of modern Australian dishes showcasing local produce and native ingredients.

Of course, the main attraction is the harbour views. Me-Gal has floor-to-ceiling windows, that give diners panoramic views of the Sydney skyline, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.

"When crafting the offering for Me-Gal we drew inspiration from its unique location and the Australian native fauna that surrounds it," general manager Hoanh Giang told Concrete Playground.

"An unexpected dining destination on the lower North Shore, the focus at Me-Gal is on sustainable dining, a passion we share with our local community of producers."

The menu includes stuffed zucchini flowers with wattle seed ricotta and macadamia crumble, beetroot and whipped lemon myrtle ricotta risotto, and sautéed Hawkesbury calamari served with kipfler potatoes, nduja and wild rocket.

A degustation menu is available for groups of four or more that includes eight different dishes and dessert at a reasonably priced $120.

The wine list includes Henschke, Penfolds, Yabby Lake, Leeuwin Estate and Oakridge, with vegan, organic, biodynamic and sustainable wines also available.

Rooms at Wildlife Retreat start at just over $500 a night.
