White Knight saves Sydney café Bakers Oven
Siblings Chris and Val Kreketos are back in business at their Bakers Oven café in Sydney's historic The Rocks precinct.
The pair was set to say goodbye to their life’s work after bureaucrats in the New South Wales state government looked to force them out stating urgent restoration work needed to be done and that the family had been there too long.
For the moment, they have been saved by white knight and new Minister for Transport, Jo Haylen who is now investigating the circumstances behind their eviction.
"My message is please come down and have a fresh coffee and a lovely fresh cake and see what you'll be missing if all this goes away," Val said.
The café has been saved, albeit temporarily for now, after A Current Affair's expose.
"Oh my gosh, it's been incredible. It's been so good," Chris said.
The reprieve enables the owners to further recoup potential losses brought on by the pandemic by operating during the Vivid festival.
