Pub stabbing leads to eight years jail

A man who stabbed two brothers inside an Adelaide tavern has been jailed for eight years.

Twenty-four-year-old Jacob Doinhardt will serve his sentence for the Father’s Day fracas in 2020 went horribly wrong.

The incident occurred at the at the Midway Tavern in Elizabeth Downs after two families clashed over a game of pool.

Doinhardt arrived at the pub to play with his family and were asked by the victims’ brother, Matthew Feast, if he could join their game.

During the game an argument broke out and Doinhardt’s mother threw her cue across the pool table.

A fight between the families then broke out, but escalated when Doinhardt produced a flick knife.

The District Court heard two siblings, Jordan and Nicholas Feast were stabbed. The former in the face and arms and the latter in the stomach.

It was alleged Doinhardt yelled, “Back off, or I’m going to kill you” during the fight.

In a victim impact statement released to the District Court, Jordan felt he was going to die.

Doinhardt pleaded guilty to two counts of causing harm with intent. Lawyers for the defendant argued he acted in self defence. However Judge Anthony Allen called the decision to use a knife grossly disproportionate to the perceived risk.

Doinhardt was serving a suspended sentence for armed robbery at the time.

He will serve a non-parole period of four years and eight months, back-dated to September 2020.
