Another tourism award for MONA

Four Tasmanian businesses have taken out national honours at the Australian Hospitality Awards.

The major award, Australia's Best Tourism Initiative, was won by Hobart's Museum of Old and New Art, which has become one of Tasmania's most visited attractions since opening in January last year.

MONA has already won two other awards this year, for tourism and architecture.

Premium accommodation venue, Saffire Freycinet on the state's east coast, took out the best resort-style accommodation award.

An employee of Cradle Mountain Chalet, Glen Astell, was honoured for excellence in service, while Ethos Bar and Drink in central Hobart was judged best stand-alone restaurant.

There were more than 200 nominations in 40 categories for the national awards which were the highlight of the inaugural Australian hospitality conference being held in Hobart.
