Tetsuya’s to stay in Kent Street… for now

Sydney fine dine restaurant Tetsuya’s has postponed its relocation from its Kent Street site and will continue to take bookings beyond August.

The popular restaurant was expected to close its doors this month after 22 years in the one location.

A spokeswoman for the restaurant confirmed the reprieve, due to owner Tetsuya Wakuda’s struggles to find a suitable new venue.

Wakuda, who was part-owner of the site along with other private joint owners, sold the Kent St building for $53 million back in 2018.

However, staff have told Good Food that they are still in the dark on where the restaurant is headed.

Wakuda may have to get a wriggle on as the site is now slated for redevelopment. He has looked at real estate across Sydney, with inner-west diners hoping he might relocate back to Rozelle where he first set up shop in 2000.

One rumour had him setting up on the harbour.

While he looks for a suitable venue, he is also overseeing spin-off Wakuda restaurants in Singapore and Las Vegas, while planning his Dubai venture.
