Short black and sides ... barber, Patrick Casey with cafe owner, Harry Levy at their new venture, Cleveland's in Surry Hills.

Sydney already has cafes in car washes, florists and motorcycle shops but the hair salon? When Cleveland's opens later this month at 311 Cleveland Street in Surry Hills, customers will be able to nurse an espresso while getting a trim, or graze on a breakfast of boiled eggs and jamon while waiting for a haircut.

''There's a massive glass wall separating the cafe, so you won't get hair in your food,'' says co-owner Harry Levy, who worked in the kitchen at Porteno and as a barista ''at about 50 cafes around town''.

Levy is jumping into the venture with business partner Patrick Casey, who has cut hair at salons around the globe.

''As far as I know we are the only ones in Sydney trying this,'' Levy says. ''Down the track we'd like to get a liquor licence so we can do a whisky and a shave.''

Hopefully the whisky is for the customer
