Hotel loses extended trading hours bid

An Alice Springs hotel has lost another bid to be able to extend its takeaway alcohol hours during the upcoming Masters Games.

The Northern Territory Licensing Commission has upheld a decision by its chairman to reject the Gap View Hotel's application for extended trading hours.

In handing down its decision, the commission said longer trading hours would not minimise the harm associated with the consumption of liquor.

It also pointed to a recommendation from the NT coroner to reduce the supply of alcohol in Alice Springs.
