Melbourne licensee banned for two years

Repeated instances of underage drinking and intoxicated patrons at a Melbourne pub have resulted in the disqualification of its licensee for a two-year period.

Martin O'Connor had been the licensee of the Pint & Pickle in Frankston since November 2003.

A total of 14 licence breaches were recorded against the pub in the period between October 2009 and December 2011.

In decision handed down this month, the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR) said it was concerned that there was "serious potential for the misuse and abuse of alcohol to continue" at the venue.

The Commission disqualified O'Connor from holding a liquor licence or BYO permit for a period of two years, starting in July.

O'Connor submitted to the Commission that he did not intend to work in the industry in the future and did not oppose the disqualification order.
