Residents continue fight against McDonald's

Opponents of a proposed McDonald's restaurant in the Dandenong Ranges are vowing to fight on, even if they are locked out of the protest site.

Locals at Tecoma have kept a round-the-clock presence at the Burwood Highway site, but the area is being fenced off.

VCAT overruled the Yarra Ranges Shire Council's decision to block the restaurant's development last week.

David Jewell, from the Tecoma Village Action Group, says the community's feelings against McDonald's are clear.

"The protest is going to continue and it's going to continue in other ways as well until the public opinion is listened to," he said.

"There were over 1,100, written individual letters of objection to the Shire of Yarra Ranges Council and there were eight in support of the project," he said.

"That gives you an idea of the proportion of people in the community who are against this project."
