IHG chief joins TAA Board

Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA) today welcomed the Australian head of Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG), Bill Edwards, as the newest member of the TAA Board.

As IHG’s Director of Operations Australasia, Mr Edwards oversees the 28 hotels owned or operated by IHG in Australia under its InterContinental, Crowne Plaza and Holiday Inn brands.

TAA Managing Director Rodger Powell said that he is delighted that Mr Edwards and IHG are re-joining TAA.

“IHG’s decision to be an active member of TAA is a strong endorsement of our strategy that was launched and funded by the Australian Hotels Association a year ago”, Mr Powell said.

“IHG’s return comes on the back of TAA’s recent successes in securing the membership and involvement of the Wyndham Group and its 21 properties via CEO Barry Robinson and the Meriton Serviced Apartment Group and its 10 properties with MD Peter Spira.

“Bill has an enormous amount of experience both in Australia and offshore and will add further depth to TAA. We welcome the IHG properties around Australia back into the fold.

“A year ago we had loyal support from 8 of the major chains, today that number is 22. We are very pleased with the progress of TAA.”

Mr Edwards is delighted to join the board and looks forward to working with TAA’s Managing Director Rodger Powell and Chairman Tony South.
